Privacy Policy
Daily Spanish Community ("DSC", "we", "us") is run by Josefina Méndez, a Spanish teacher based in Argentina. This policy explains what personal data we collect through dailyspanishcommunity.com, why we collect it, and what rights you have over it. We keep it in plain English on purpose.
1.Who is responsible for your data
The data controller is Josefina Méndez, operating as Daily Spanish Community. For anything related to your personal data, you can write to hola@dailyspanishcommunity.com.
2.What data we collect
Data you give us directly
- Account data: when you create a membership account (for the grammar course or the Discord community membership), we collect your name, email address, and a password.
- Newsletter data: when you subscribe to our emails, we collect your email address and, optionally, your first name.
- Purchase data: when you buy the e-book or a membership, we collect your name, email address, billing country, and order details. Your card number never touches our servers — payment details are handled entirely by Stripe (see section 4).
- Messages: if you contact us by email or through a form, we keep the message and your contact details so we can reply.
Data collected automatically
- Technical data: IP address, browser type, device type, and pages visited, collected through standard server logs and cookies.
- Marketing data: if you consent to marketing cookies, the Meta Pixel collects information about how you browse our site so we can measure our content and, in the future, show relevant ads on Facebook and Instagram (see section 5).
3.Why we use your data, and on what legal basis
Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we need a legal basis for each use of your data:
| What we do | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Create and manage your account, give you access to the course and community, process your payments | Performance of a contract |
| Send you the newsletter and free learning content you signed up for | Your consent (you can unsubscribe anytime via the link in every email) |
| Send essential service emails (receipts, password resets, membership notices) | Performance of a contract / legitimate interest |
| Measure site traffic and improve our content and courses | Legitimate interest |
| Use the Meta Pixel for ad measurement and audiences | Your consent |
| Keep invoices and tax records | Legal obligation |
4.Who we share data with (our tools)
We never sell your personal data. We share it only with the service providers we need to run DSC, each acting under their own privacy commitments:
| Service | What it does | Privacy policy |
|---|---|---|
| Stripe | Processes all payments. Stripe receives your card details directly — we only see the result of the transaction. | stripe.com/privacy |
| MailerLite | Stores our email list and sends the newsletter. | mailerlite.com |
| Hostinger | Hosts our website and databases. | hostinger.com |
| Meta (Facebook / Instagram) | Receives browsing data through the Meta Pixel if you consent to marketing cookies. | facebook.com/privacy |
| Discord | Hosts our learning community. Joining is optional; once you join, Discord's own privacy policy applies to your activity there. | discord.com/privacy |
Some of these providers are located outside the European Economic Area (mainly in the United States). Where that happens, transfers are protected by the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision (such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework).
5.Cookies
Our site uses:
- Essential cookies — needed for the site to work: login sessions for members and performance cookies set by LiteSpeed Cache. These don't require consent.
- Marketing cookies — the Meta Pixel, which is only activated if you accept marketing cookies. You can change your mind at any time through the cookie settings on this site or by clearing cookies in your browser.
6.How long we keep your data
- Account data: for as long as your account exists. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove it within 30 days.
- Newsletter data: until you unsubscribe; unsubscribed contacts are purged periodically.
- Purchase and invoice records: for as long as tax law requires (typically up to 10 years).
- Emails and messages: up to 2 years after our last exchange.
7.Your rights
If you are in the EU/EEA or UK (and in many other places), you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you and get a copy;
- Correct data that is inaccurate;
- Delete your data ("right to be forgotten"), subject to legal retention duties;
- Object to processing based on legitimate interest, and to direct marketing at any time;
- Withdraw consent at any time (for example, unsubscribing from emails or rejecting marketing cookies), without affecting past processing;
- Receive your data in a portable format;
- Complain to your local data protection authority if you believe we've mishandled your data.
To exercise any of these rights, just email us — no special form needed. We'll respond within 30 days.
8.Children
Our website and services are intended for adults and are not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
9.Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our tools or practices change. The date at the top always reflects the latest version, and significant changes will be announced by email to members.
